VPS Lakeshore Gives Hope to Heart Patient with Life-Saving Treatment and Compassionate Support..

Kochi: Raju, a farmer from Thiruvavnkulam, was given a new lease of life after receiving life-saving treatment at VPS Lakeshore Hospital. His journey, marked by multiple cardiac arrests, financial hardship, and the added challenge of raising two school-going children, took a turn for the better thanks to the hospital's timely intervention and unwavering support.

Raju’s struggle with heart disease began in 2022 when he suffered a cardiac arrest and underwent emergency angioplasty in Thiruvananthapuram. Despite the procedure, his health continued to decline, and in 2023, he experienced another cardiac arrest, leading to his admission at Kottayam Medical College. Unfortunately, due to financial constraints, Raju’s family was unable to afford the necessary surgeries, and his condition worsened.

The family was already grappling with medical costs when one of Raju’s two school-going sons required surgery for appendicitis. This unforeseen medical emergency forced them to further delay Raju's much-needed treatment, compounding their financial difficulties.

In early 2024, desperate for help, Raju shared his story through a report in Malayala Manorama, hoping for public assistance. The report caught the attention of VPS Lakeshore Hospital’s Managing Director, SK Abdulla, who immediately took action. Corporate Communications Manager Anilkumar T. reached out to Raju and invited him for a comprehensive medical evaluation at the hospital.

Upon evaluation, a series of tests, including a nuclear scan and angiogram, revealed that one of Raju’s arteries was completely non-functional, another was fully blocked, and only one artery was partially operational. Initially, Raju was deemed unfit for angioplasty. However, under the care of Dr. Anand Kumar S, HOD of Cardiology, the team decided to begin a month-long course of oral medication to stabilise his condition before proceeding with any invasive treatments.

Dr. Anand Kumar V, who performs Raju's treatment, said his condition was critical, but with the right medical intervention, he showed remarkable improvement. "After a month of stabilising medication, we were able to perform the angioplasty. I am grateful to the hospital for covering the costs of his treatment and giving him a second chance at life.” Anand Kumar said.

Thanks to the compassionate care provided by VPS Lakeshore, Raju’s health improved, and he was able to undergo angioplasty. The hospital covered all treatment expenses, including medications, procedures, and follow-up care, which amounted to nearly ₹3 lakh.

“We are committed to providing quality healthcare to all, regardless of financial status. Raju’s case was particularly heart-wrenching, and we knew we had to act swiftly. It is our responsibility to not only treat but also offer hope to those in need.” said SK Abdulla, MD of VPS Lakeshore Hospital.

In addition to saving Raju’s life, the hospital extended further support by offering his wife, Bindu, a job to help stabilise their financial situation.
